Ipod saves soldiers life

Ipod saves soldiers life.jpg

The back of the Ipod.

I've moved updating to my blog at havanalion.com
Photos sent to me by my friend Danny with this caption:
My wife’s uncle works in a military hospital and told me about this. Its pretty amazing. Kevin Garrad (3rd Infantry Division) was on a street patrol in Iraq (Tikrit I believe) and as he rounded the corner of a building an armed (AK-47) insurgent came from the other side.
The two of them were within just a few feet of each other when they opened fire. The insurgent was killed and Kevin was hit in the left chest where his IPod was in his jacket pocket. It slowed the bullet down enough that it did not completely penetrate his body armor. Fortunately, Kevin suffered no wound.
I thought it was a great story so I posted them here.

UPDATE 04.05.07:
I just got an email via flickr from an engineer at Apple. He showed the photos around the office and want to help get the guy a new iPod. So it's looking good that it will be replaced.

Retract, Said the Tick Tock Man
I&#8217;m privileged to announce that Andrew Breitbart has added me to his list of everyone in the world who must immediately bow before his might and retract, retract, retract: Retraction Requests: Charles Johnson, Big Journalism. Breitbart seems to believe I should retract my statement that the 2006 event titled &#8220;Race and ... <p><a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/zhBMNXR_J_w-3A_fgxaxtD_ZZCc/0/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/zhBMNXR_J_w-3A_fgxaxtD_ZZCc/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a><br/> <a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/zhBMNXR_J_w-3A_fgxaxtD_ZZCc/1/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/zhBMNXR_J_w-3A_fgxaxtD_ZZCc/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a></p>

O'Keefegate Photographer Speaks
The Andrew Breitbart-Max Blumenthal slugfest continues, as Blumenthal posts a short interview with &#8220;Isis,&#8221; the woman who took the photograph of Breitbart employee James O&#8217;Keefe at the &#8220;Race and Conservatism&#8221; event in 2006: Isis: O'Keefe "Was There," Involved In "Execution". I followed up with Isis. She told me in ... <p><a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/hqKVHG0ZhofrTVDBiTphkRBm-2Q/0/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/hqKVHG0ZhofrTVDBiTphkRBm-2Q/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a><br/> <a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/hqKVHG0ZhofrTVDBiTphkRBm-2Q/1/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/hqKVHG0ZhofrTVDBiTphkRBm-2Q/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a></p>

O'Keefe 'Race and Conservatism' Updates
Andrew Breitbart has turned his &#8220;Big Journalism&#8221; website into an amazingly lengthy tirade demanding &#8220;retractions&#8221; from practically every media organization in America, for writing about the Max Blumenthal-One People&#8217;s Project report that claimed ACORN sting filmmaker James O&#8217;Keefe was photographed at a &#8220;white supremacist forum&#8221; in 2006. There have been some ... <p><a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/kuJYl5Zy_Rk25gqnGLkFW_kqQH4/0/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/kuJYl5Zy_Rk25gqnGLkFW_kqQH4/0/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a><br/> <a href="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/kuJYl5Zy_Rk25gqnGLkFW_kqQH4/1/da"><img src="http://feedads.g.doubleclick.net/~a/kuJYl5Zy_Rk25gqnGLkFW_kqQH4/1/di" border="0" ismap="true"></img></a></p>

TeaBagCon: Tom Tancredo Suggests Reinstating 'Literacy Tests' for Voters
On the first night of the first National Tea Party Convention the featured speaker, Tom Tancredo, blew the racist dog whistle so loudly they heard it in Alabama. In the 1960s. Clash of the Titans: Palin Says Limbaugh's Comments Were 'Crude and Demeaning'
We have a new entry in the &#8220;Is American politics weird enough yet?&#8221; sweepstakes: Sarah Palin bashes Rush Limbaugh. Thursday Afternoon Music: Tommy Emmanuel, 'Tall Fiddler'
This performance of &#8220;Tall Fiddler&#8221; by Tommy Emmanuel is completely ridiculous. And by ridiculous, I mean mind-boggling. The fastest wrist in the west.  Our Soldier in Iraq

What does he do?

Our soldier is a Calvary Scout and all of his platoon members are Calvary Scouts. The Cavalry Scout is the commander's eyes and ears on the battlefield. When information about the enemy is needed, they call on the Scouts. They are trained in reconnaissance, weapons, explosives and mines. When the U.S. Army engages an enemy the Special Forces go in first, the Scouts second and the Infantry last. Their job is dangerous and the Scout's need your prayers. They have trained for the last 18 months at Fort Knox Kentucky, Fort Riley Kansas and the National Training Center at Fort Irwin  in California's Mojave Desert. Their mission in Iraq is to secure various neighborhoods in the capitol city of Baghdad.

Where is he at?

At the moment they are in Baghdad, Iraq.

What does he need?

Prayers, letters, postcards, e-mails and packages. Some of the things you can include in packages are: Mach3 razor blades, shaving gel, gum (sugarless), Carmex (tube), visine, beef jerkey (store bought w/USDA Symbol)), movie dvd's, candy (no chocolate), magazines, bodywash,  lots of snacks etc...For a comprehensive list and contact information see Deb or Jule. I'm sure once our soldier contacts home this list will be updated.
