| Tragedy - Wednesday, April 18, 2007 - Sunday, April 22, 2007 One soldier was killed and another ctitically injured from our troop in Baghdad earlier this week. Please pray for the fallen soldier's Mom that God would console her and pray for the brave sergeant who was injured and finally pray for our troopers that were shaken by the loss of their friend.

"The following is an official release:
Here is the approved FORSCOM PAO message regarding the extensions to 15
months:
The Secretary of Defense and Secretary of the Army will announce this afternoon that active component Army units will now have standard deployments of 15 months. Those active component units that have already deployed to Iraq will be extended to a 15-month tour.
U.S. Army Reserve and Army National Guard unit’s tours will not be affected by this announcement.
Unit relocations will be adjusted accordingly where they are affected.
We understand this is a sacrifice by our Soldiers and families, but these extensions are necessary to meet surge unit requirements. The Army will continue to do everything in its power to support our families during this difficult time."

Having our guys over there for a one-year tour is difficult enough, but now it has turned into 15 months. We need to try to remain positive even though I know it is difficult. Our soldiers need us to remain positive and continue to offer our prayers and support… |

Ipod saves soldiers life

Photos sent to me by my friend Danny with this caption:
My wife’s uncle works in a military hospital and told me about this. Its pretty amazing. Kevin Garrad (3rd Infantry Division) was on a street patrol in Iraq (Tikrit I believe) and as he rounded the corner of a building an armed (AK-47) insurgent came from the other side.
The two of them were within just a few feet of each other when they opened fire. The insurgent was killed and Kevin was hit in the left chest where his IPod was in his jacket pocket. It slowed the bullet down enough that it did not completely penetrate his body armor. Fortunately, Kevin suffered no wound.
I thought it was a great story so I posted them here.
UPDATE 04.05.07:
I just got an email via flickr from an engineer at Apple. He showed the photos around the office and want to help get the guy a new iPod. So it's looking good that it will be replaced.

What does he do?
Our soldier is a Calvary Scout and all of his platoon members are Calvary Scouts. The Cavalry Scout is the commander's eyes and ears on the battlefield. When information about the enemy is needed, they call on the Scouts. They are trained in reconnaissance, weapons, explosives and mines. When the U.S. Army engages an enemy the Special Forces go in first, the Scouts second and the Infantry last. Their job is dangerous and the Scout's need your prayers. They have trained for the last 18 months at Fort Knox Kentucky, Fort Riley Kansas and the National Training Center at Fort Irwin in California's Mojave Desert. Their mission in Iraq is to secure various neighborhoods in the capitol city of Baghdad.

At the moment they are in Baghdad, Iraq.
What does he need?
Prayers, letters, postcards, e-mails and packages.
